Mountain Bike Route General Description:-
Short Road section to start with before a long uphill . Connects to Loch Farleyer and Dull Forest. 2 mile road section at end to return to Hotel Car Park
Park at Ailean Craggan Hotel and proceed East for about 200 metres . Turn left following Glassie bunkhouse sign. This is a 280m ascent for about 2 km
Do not take Glassie bunkhouse turn off, but carry on up the hill to next junction – go straight on and continue through two forestry gates . At next junction keep straight along forest track for 1km – (Option to turn right and join onto Loch Farleyer route)
Or continue for another km to Red Arrow pointing right
100m BEFORE trees clear, just as you begin to see the fantastic views of the Appin Valley STOP! Look RIGHT, you will see a BIG LAYBY, follow the SMALL WALKING PATH out of the layby, up the hill, through the trees (approx 100m). You have gone too far if you are still on the Forest road and have reached a cleared area.
Follow the walking path and you will reach a cleared area, here there are awesome views of the Appin Valley, with Loch Tay in the distance and the market town of Aberfeldy below, can you spot General Wades Bridge? The ruined village in front of you is called Rawer.
Follow path along the side of the hill, through the ruined village until you reconnect with the forestry road. Turn LEFT when you reach this road to a steel gate. Once you are through the gate, there will be a white house on your right, this is Shenaval House where Tommy Dewar lived (Dewars Whisky). At next junction option to turn right to Loch Farleyer and Glassie Route or Dull Forest.
Follow the farm track downhill ride from here. Follow the road through Camserney, turn left when you reach the main road, and cycle 2 miles back to the Ailean Craggan hotel.
